California couple enters divorce process after husband's arrest

Marriages in California and elsewhere can end for a myriad of reasons. Sometimes, the reason can be related to criminal accusations against one of the spouses. This is what has happened to one local couple, and the wife has now entered the divorce process.

According to a report, the couple was married in 1988 and has lived in California ever since. The husband was a doctor, and the wife took care of the family. Recently, however, the husband was accused of serious crimes and taken into custody. As a result, the wife began the divorce process against her estranged spouse.

As is her right, she is asking for the payment of alimony from her soon-to-be ex-husband. In addition, she will likely request her share of the value of the couple's assets. This would include any equity from the sale of their home, which occurred after the arrest.

Entering the divorce process in California means that the wife can now seek to end the decades-long marriage. This matter may be more of a special case due to the incarceration of her husband; however, the family law rights that she has as a spouse remain in affect. These will include her right to a share of all of the couple's assets, though the divorce could be slowed if there are financial issues related to her husband's criminal matter. In such a complicated case, it is often a good idea to seek the advice of an experienced professional who can help a person navigate the legal system to ensure a just and fair outcome.
